As the title says: a field guide to the wildflowers and flowering shrubs of the Foothills, Valleys, and Coastal Areas of California. Thorough. Well researched. Contains a great overview of the plant communities of California, where one might find these flowers in spring. Colored illustrations, throughout. Flowers organized by color. The only downside is that, within a color, there is no clear way to find a specific flower, except by browsing through all the flowers in that color range. Still, a necessary reference for anyone engaged in nature study in the Coast Range Mountains of California.
